Two words you’re almost guaranteed to hear over the next few weeks if you have school-aged children at home.
So how can cash-conscious parents keep boredom, and mischief, at bay during the summer holidays?
It’s not easy, especially when trips to the cinema, zoo, or theme parks can quickly add up. But don’t worry, there are plenty of low-cost, creative activities that will keep your kids entertained without emptying your wallet. You just need a few clever ideas up your sleeve.
Here are three fun, budget friendly activities to get you started:
🔍 Scavenger Hunt
Turn a simple walk in the garden or park into an exciting adventure. Create a list of items for your child to find, like a feather, a flower, a ladybird, or something yellow. You can write your own list or download one online.
This activity encourages curiosity and attention to detail, and it’s a great way to burn off some energy outdoors.
📔 Create a Scrapbook
Make memories that last long after the holidays are over. Buy your child a scrapbook and encourage them to collect small souvenirs from their outings. Postcards, ticket stubs, sweet wrappers, or even interesting leaves.
Add photos of your adventures, and let them draw or write about what they’ve done. By the end of the holidays, you’ll have a beautiful keepsake and a fun reminder of a summer well spent.
📦 Box Clever
Never underestimate the power of a cardboard box. With a bit of tape, some paint, and a sprinkle of imagination, a box can become anything. A castle, a car, a spaceship.
If you don’t have a box at home, try asking at your local shop (the bigger, the better). Add paper plates for wheels, cut out a turret or two, and let the creativity flow.
