🍂 The Interior Design Themes Going Viral This Autumn

⏱ 4-minute read

With 578 million active users, Pinterest has no shortage of data to analyse when predicting design trends. Its latest Autumn Trends report highlights five interior décor themes that are set to dominate homes in the coming months. Some reflect nostalgia and a love of the past, while others speak to modern lifestyles and the need to make everyday spaces feel special.

So, how many of these styles do you already have in your home?

đŸȘ‘ Thrifted home dĂ©cor
Second-hand style is no longer just about saving money. It’s become a way to add character and individuality to a home. Pinterest has seen searches for ‘dream thrift finds’ rise by an impressive 550% in recent months, particularly among Gen Z users (18–24 years old). This younger generation is both budget-conscious and eco-conscious, and they’re turning to vintage armchairs, retro dressers, quirky mirrors and old lamps to bring personality into their living spaces. If you’ve inherited pieces from a grandparent or picked up something unique in a charity shop, you’re already part of this movement.

🏡 Rustic farmhouse
Rustic and cosy interiors are also having a moment. According to the report, searches for ‘farmhouse cottage interiors’ have gone up 370%, and the phrase ‘rustic retreats’ is up 172%. This theme is about warmth and comfort, with interiors that wouldn’t look out of place in a countryside log cabin or prairie farmhouse. Heavy wooden tables, wood-burning stoves, crochet blankets, and floral prints all feature heavily. It’s a return to simple living, where homes feel like sanctuaries from the fast pace of the outside world.

đŸ’» Slick home offices
Working from home may be part of daily life now, but that doesn’t mean home offices have to be dull or cluttered. Pinterest has recorded a huge rise in searches for ‘work office makeovers’ (up 2,652%) and ‘chic cubicle dĂ©cor’ (up 1,543%). The focus here is on turning a functional space into one that feels inspiring and stylish. Clear desks, leafy indoor plants, carefully chosen lamps and prints, and clever storage solutions all play their part. These spaces are designed to be practical yet Instagram-worthy, proving that working from home can look as good as it feels.

🟩 Statement tiles
Bathrooms and kitchens are getting bolder this season thanks to the rise of statement tiles. Searches for ‘standout tiles’ have increased by 450%, and the trend is all about embracing design that refuses to blend in. Expect intricate mosaics, ornate patterns, bold colours and textured finishes. Tiles aren’t just practical anymore – they’re focal points, used to express creativity and give everyday spaces a stylish lift. Whether on a bathroom wall or a kitchen splashback, the more distinctive the design, the better.

✹ Art deco
Finally, Pinterest has reported a surge in interest for all things art deco, with searches for ‘art deco dĂ©cor interiors’ rising by 745%. Inspired by the sleek, geometric aesthetic of the 1920s and 1930s, this trend leans on materials like glass, chrome, and lacquered wood. Velvet cushions, bold geometric patterns, and glamorous details add a touch of elegance. Interestingly, the term ‘1980s art deco’ has also been trending – a quirky throwback that channels Miami Vice with pastel shades and kitsch takes on the original look.

These five themes highlight how interior design is moving in two directions this autumn: towards the comfort of the past and the sleekness of modern living. Whether you’re drawn to rustic farmhouse warmth or chic art deco elegance, there’s a trend here to suit every taste.
